Life has been busier than usual in the Harrison household. We’re finishing up with our moving adventure here in the next few days. By the way, if you’ve never experienced the full selling, buying, and moving in and out of a house experience…wow, you are in for a treat. All of the stress that I thought I could avoid because I “knew it was coming”. Not so much. It’s one of those life events or occurrences that is just in its nature stressful. Nothing you can do about it. But that brings me to the latest thoughts and insights.
How many times do we make something worse than it actually is. Or as Mark Twain said, “I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.” Right on, Mark. After the first leg of our move I was recollecting how much harder the packing process was in my mind than it actually was. The thought of it was harder than the doing it. In fact, all of my stress and anxiety came from thinking about doing it, not actually doing it. When my wife and I were packing up the house for 3 days, it was just work. And the more we got done, the better we felt. We were only stressed out and yelling at each other when we were talking about HOW we were going to pack up.
Lesson learned. I’ll try and remember all of this the next time I move or I’m planning a larger undertaking. What about you? Where do you make more anxiety and stress for yourself? Where are you blocking off your energy flow by doing more thinking than doing? How can you be more present in your body and in your actions and less in your mind thinking about what think you should do?
What are your thoughts?
