The state of world right now is weird. It’s a weird time to be alive. Our political landscape is now unescapable. Even if we want to ignore it, we can’t. Naturally, when we encounter situations that we don’t accept or that we are afraid of we get scared. I’m not one to tell people how to feel and I’m not going to do that. Fear and anger are a useful part of the human experience in “waking us up” and keeping us alert and on our toes to fend off potential or imminent threats.
Fear and anger serve to alert us to danger
Hey, there is nothing wrong with being mad. And there is certainly nothing wrong with being angry. Our mid brains are designed to react in ways to keep us safe. This is one of the useful experiences of anger and fear.
Where the potential sticking point is how we deal with it. Are we latching onto it and identifying with it? Or are we allowing it to be an invitation to look into our pain or suffering? Are we further disempowering ourselves or are we moving with and through our fear and anger to learn more about WHERE we are in control and where our influence lies?
Using the “shadow” to work through fear and anger
Are we able to use our current difficult circumstances to be a guide to where our positive power and potential lie? Can we see the mirror of the world that shows us our own “shadow self”?
Using and acknowledging the “shadow”
We see that we have the potential to express and show others just what our fear and anger look like. We want to be seen and acknowledged. We are looking for others to acknowledge it, so we express it. But it’s not the job of other people to heal our pain and anger. It’s our job. And not only is it our job to work through our stuff but we can do so in at least two ways.
1. Giving attention to what we are experiencing internally. Can we sit and listen to what is going on inside of and give that emotional pain the attention we are seeking from others to give to us?
2. We can begin to realize that we ARE important enough to share our talents and gifts to the world and know that what we have to offer WILL make a difference?
The world needs more creativity, action, and positivity
This is what I am passionate about. Allowing ourselves to use the talents and gifts we came into the world with AND trust that it is needed and important.
Yes, yes, I know. “You make it sound so easy! Just being positive won’t change anything!” Yet, what has the angst and anger helped us with to this point? And I’m not suggesting that everything will be great just because you decide to pick a cause, or a creative outlet, and be passionate about it. What will change is you. And that’s reason enough. Your actions, thoughts, and emotions all make up the greater consciousness of the world.
When you change, the world begins to change. The people that are ready to receive positivity, inspiration, and hope WILL feel your efforts. You embody creativity, peace, and positivity and the world around you changes. Don’t believe me? See what your home looks and feels like when you put positive intention into it.
“But what can I do?!”
There is a tremendous amount of positive and creative potential out there just waiting to be tapped into. Fear and anger keep that in check. It looks like this. “What can I do? I’m just one person!” Yet, we find it satisfying and easy to express our pain and fear via social media. “Can’t everyone see that this is going on! It’s terrible!”
If we assume we can make a difference negatively by sharing our pain and anger, can we also acknowledge that we can make even a BIGGER difference and help more people by sharing what we have to offer? Which choice sounds like it will have a bigger and more positive impact for you and those around you?
“How can I be more creative?”
The first suggestion is stop trying to change everything. Stop trying to worry about everything. There is no way one person can do it all. But when you create connection with others, when you allow yourself to take risks, when you take the first steps to become involved with the things you care about, you are creating a reality that you seek and value.
“But I don’t have time!”
This isn’t about making more time or doing more, necessarily. If you are already doing everything you can and believing your efforts and impact on your family, job environment, or the world is important, there’s only one thing left for you to do. Create your own happiness. And that doesn’t take any time. Allow yourself to appreciate where you are and what you are putting out there. It’s ok to be happy. It’s ok to relax when you’ve worked hard. It’s ok to not be able to solve all the world’s problems. You can only do so much. But when you add to the already tremendous amounts of anger, fear, and worry, who are you helping? You? Your family? Your kids? You just being happy, content, or positive is helping others. It helps them feel better, more safe, and be more engaged and confident. It’s really important.
Create through connecting with others
How much do we react to what we see in the news and take it as wholesale truth? How often are we actually making an effort to get to know something, or someone, we don’t? Talk to someone who is not like you. Be curious about them. You don’t even have to talk about world affairs or politics. Just connect. Learn. Be curious. Challenge your preconceived thoughts about people by just talking with them and casually connecting with them.
We think we know but we don’t know
We think we know. That’s the mind’s job. We want to have certainly. We want to assume we can have it all figured out. We can’t. When we assume we have all of the facts, we stop being the student. We lose the curiosity of a child. We are closed off to learning and closed off to potential. Potential solutions. Potential outcomes. Potential breakthroughs. The only thing we can be certain about is what we do. What we choose to put out into the world. We can choose to be receptive. We can choose to learn something we didn’t know.
We are all connected. Choose to seek similarity in others.
I mentioned this on the video (of this very subject) that I posted recently.
On the opposite ends of worldly belief spectrum lie the religious mind and worldview and on the other lies the science minded view of the world. Ironically, while both of these mindsets are busy pushing their belief systems trying to convince the other of the “absolute truth”…they choose to ignore the one thing that connects them both in agreement. We all come from one source. God vs. the big bang. Two different beliefs of WHY things happened and created the universe, yet similar in the FACT that we ALL come from one source. The divine being and ultimate creator. The creation of the universe from one single mass explosion out of nothing. We are all stardust. The fact remains right in front of all of us. We are one.
Can we choose to seek, not only facts that we are one and that we are all connected but can we begin to live as one? Can we see that what we put into the world has an impact on the world, no matter how small we see it? And can seek to connect on our shared experiences of pain, anger, fear, and also those creative and positive forces that can potentially serve ourselves and those around us?
Can we choose love and creation? Why not? What do we have to lose at this point?
Peace.
